TIP #2- Use A Free Teleprompter For Your Videos. January 9th, 2009
Hi, Today I have tip #2 for you when starting out making videos.
Don’t forget you can start out making videos just with slides. Then you can record your voice. It’s a great way to start and still will be effective.
But sooner than later you are going to have to get in front of the camera and talk. May I suggest to make it easy by writing out a script. Of course the trick is as you make your video you want to speak and look very natural so no one watching knows you are reading a script.
Aha! the solution is a Teleprompter. When I realized this is what I needed, I went to good old e-bay to get a bargain. To my horror surprise I found they run over $700. After dealing with massive depression and gulping a few glasses of water, I e-mailed a friend to ask her for a suggestion of just what to buy.
She said why don’t you just use a Free Teleprompter. After using it several times I can tell you it works awesome. You just type in your schpeal and make changes as you would in a word processor. And when you are ready you can set the teleprompter for size and speed.
So now you will look relaxed and natural because you will be. You can get your free teleprompter at http://www.cueprompter.com/
One last important point. Try to get your video camera situated in a place where you can read the teleprompter and still look straight into the camera. If you put your camera above your computer screen. Your eyes will be shifting between looking at the camera and reading your script. No one trusts a person with shifty eyes. Since I use the pocket camcorder called The Flip. I put the tiny Flip camera and tripod in the middle of my laptop screen. I find I can read the words and look straight into the camera without a hitch.
This link is an example of myself using a teleprompter in a video that has made me about $500 in the past few months. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R71k8_5qpQc&feature=channel_page
Comments of course are always welcomed.

Hi Kevin,
Your very welcome. Yes the free teleprompter is really great. I has made a world of difference to me. Frankly in making some videos just sitting in my office desk, I don’t know what I’d do without it.
Regards,
Rob

Hey Rob,
Thank you for your tip regarding the Teleprompter. I’m sure it can be of great use for all us AJ students out there who are looking to get vlogging in the near future.
I checked out your vid on you tube and I understand that you’re a film buff just like me. There is another site you should check out: http://www.quicksilverscreen.com
